Day 6: Same Problems

Published
2 min readView as Markdown

My main problem is and always has been, how do I rotate the arms? There are four arms in such a small area, and all these servo motors and linear actuators are just too big for my idea. I am pretty sure there must be some method, but as it is my first project, I guess my struggle is understandable.

I have been thinking over and over again about how I can fit some type of mechanism for these four arms in my robot. I first thought about using a linear actuator, but that was too long. Then, I thought about using servo motors. I checked out the MG996R, then the smaller servo motors like the SG90 and MG90s. I also looked at worm-geared motors, but my whole robot itself is way too small for all the components I looked at. I could not figure out a way to fit the arm to the robot using one of these components. This was the fundamental roadblock, preventing me from moving forward with the design.

Now I will be using the MG90s servo motor and designing an arm that fits this constraint. My arm might have to be pretty tall, which is not really something I want to do, but as it is, I don’t feel I am taking a step forward.

I will redesign the arms and come back to you guys tomorrow, hopefully finally with something that I feel should work. That’s a wrap for day 6.
